GL-TURBO Officially Enters Indian Market

2/15/2018 – Copenhagen – GL-TURBO International ApS (GLTi) recently announced receiving a purchase order from India, regarding delivery of a GL3 Integrally Geared Single Stage Centrifugal Turbo Blower to an EFP (Effluent Treatment Plant). The EFP is an in-house treatment facility developed by a large Indian producer of colors for dyeing of fabrics. This order marks GL-TURBO’s official entry into India.

About 250km north of Mumbai, the Effluent Treatment Plant is located at a suburban industrial park in Surat, Gujarat. The city of Surat is the eighth largest city in India, with a population of 4.5 million according to 2011 census. Major manufacturing sectors in Surat City include textiles and garments, diamond cutting and polishing, chemicals, and petrochemicals. With rapidly growing industries in this area, the local government pushed for stringent environmental practices and compliance, more and more industrial companies are gradually shifting their focus to greener technology and equipment.

According to US Department of Commerce, almost 63% of municipal wastewater and 40% of industrial wastewater in India is left untreated and discharged. In October last year, India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced new rules governing the quality of effluent released to water bodies from municipal wastewater treatment plants. Although the standards are weaker than the draft proposed two years ago, it is seen by water professionals as being more practical and thus a good step.
